What are Electronic Cigarettes

In a nutshell, an Electronic cigarette is a healthier alternative to analog cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes are these nifty devices that imitate smoking gestures such as puffing and blowing of clouds of water vapor instead (hence the term “vaping”) of smoke from the burning of tobacco and the absorption of nicotine of different controlled levels from e-juices or e-liquids.

Electronic cigarettes come in 3 parts: the battery, the atomizer and the tip.

Batteries of most electronic cigarettes are made out Lithium Ion which is the rechargeable family of batteries on the market. Lithium Ion batteries or LIB dictates the price of most electronic cigarettes on the market based on their capacity. We measure batteries in mAh units or milliampere-hour. The higher the capacity of the battery, the longer it will last upon extended usage.

Standard electronic cigarettes with 180mAh batteries can last anywhere from 30-45 minutes of continuous vaping. A 650mAh battery on the other hand can last anywhere from 5-7 hours of continuous vaping and will normally be more expensive than other batteries with a lower capacity.

The atomizer is the heart of the electronic cigarette. Inside the atomizer is a coil that heats up once it’s activated with an electronic charge from the battery. The coil heats up the liquids and atomization takes place. This is comparable to a rock concert fog machine – only 30 times smaller.

The tip of an electronic cigarette may come in two forms: A cartridge or a drip tip.

A cartridge is also called a whistle tip because it has a smaller whole on one end. Cartridges are normally filled with poly fill which holds the liquid and is used to store the liquid at any given time. Cartridges are installed on top of the atomizer and the liquids stored inside the poly fill is drown directly to the atomizer coil.

Drip tips on the other hand are tips used to accommodate direct dripping to the atomizer. They are normally made out of aluminum, steel or brass. Direct dripping practice is just another way to supply e-juice or e-liquids to the atomizer but is believed to produce better flavor and vapor compared to cartridges.

This is probably the most interesting and influencing video I’ve watched when I was still browsing the web for my first PV. Chris of TheGeekGroup shares his experience with his own habit smoking and his success with using electronic cigarettes.
